More from our teams:

K9 Capone with Trent Martin alerted on a car stop which resulted in a warrant. During the search they found a bunch of ecstasy, marijuana, scales, and baggies.

K9 Casko and Michelle Leblanc assisted with 2 runaway kids. After almost 2 miles of tracking, their direction of travel led other officers to check a rest area where the kids were found in a truck.

K9 Akido with George Merkel alerted to a vehicle which led to a search warrant. The search revealed a 32 grams of cocaine, some crack, a little heroin, and a good pile of cash. A few weeks later another alert by Akido led to a search of a package where 5 pounds of marijuana was seized.

K9 Max and Jeremy Perkins assisted with seizing some marijuana and over $6200 in cash after a car strop.

K9 Maximus and Ed Hunter tracked a burglar from a convenience store into the woods down some railroad tracks. Suspect was quickly found and brought to jail.

K9 Odin with Travis Bingham assisted on a search warrant where 2.5 ounces of cocaine was found after Odin’s alert.

K9 Rolf and Dave White assisted with a sweep of a package. The search warrant yielded a pound of marijuana.

And sadly, K9 Sheba of the Massachusetts Environmental Police died at the age of 15. She had served faithfully with Terry Davis since 1996, retiring in 2006. Sheba was trained in tracking and wildlife detection. During her 10 year career she assisted at several incidents with tracks, venison finds, and demonstrations. I miss her too Terry.

The VPCA hosted a Decoy School at the Academy. Three handlers and three decoys attended, spending the long weekend being hit, punched, tackled and bit by our dogs. Good school.

News from the past couple of weeks:

VSP Trooper Dave White and K9 Rolfe assisted in locating a trio of runaway juveniles from a Rehab Center. The team ran through woods, down roads and through a swamp and made the find of the three hiding in a dugout. Awesome track.

Lebanon PD Officer Jeremy Perkins and K9 Max completed a 2.5 hour old track on mostly pavement to locate a 15 year old runaway. Short track, but very old for pavement.

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS..........
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to b e painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Mike Lewis Training

About a dozen of us had the opportunity to attend a two day training with internationally recognized trainer Mike Lewis, the Sheriff of the Wicomico County Sheriffs Department in Maryland. He spent two full days teaching us about hidden compartments, drug identification, and criminal interdiction. He is a highly motivating speaker with over 22 years of experience as a MD State Trooper with most of the time working just interdiction. This class was entirely funded with a grant arranged by Bernie Sanders. Thanks Bernie!
